Eric Ross- Lead Investigator
Company: KOAA News5 "Spot and Stop Scams" According to a newly published fraud report by the US Senate Aging Committee, senior citizens lose approximately $3 billion each year to financial scams. Recovering lost assets and getting justice isn't always easy because criminals constantly use new tactics. However, law enforcement has seen success with its anti-fraud efforts. According to Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), the largest crackdown on elder fraud cases in American history happened just last year. More than 200 defendants were criminally charged for stealing more than a half billion dollars. In 2016, federal agents shut down five call centers in India tied to a massive fraud ring. Unfortunately, these efforts haven't stopped email and phone call con artists. |
